BACKGROUND : To determine the attitude and knowledge of clinical physical therapists towards Evidence Based Practice and to find out frequency of evidence based use/practice in public and private hospitals of Peshawar
METHODOLOGY : This cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted on clinical physical therapists working in government and private hospitals of Peshawar by census sampling technique. We had included 17 hospitals out of which 13 hospitals permitted us for the survey. The response rate calculated was 78.05%. Data was collected from 84 participants concerning demographics, knowledge, attitude and frequency of use were recorded using standard questionnaire. For data analysis we used SPSS version 20. The respondent’s percentage and frequency for each section of questionnaire was separately calculated and presented as in the form of tables and bar charts.
RESULTS : Out of total 84 participants 71 (84.5%) had positive attitude and 13 (15.5%) had negative attitude towards EBP, 69(82.1%) of participants had good knowledge of EBP while 15 (17.9) had poor knowledge, 49(58.3%) were placed in category of bad practice and 35 (41.7%) of participants were in category of good clinical practice.
CONCLUSION : Physiotherapists of Peshawar, Pakistan had generally much more knowledge and positive attitude regarding EBP, although the frequency of use of practicing evidence based turned out low. Moreover, the discrepancy in understanding and usage of EBP may be due to lack of interest in usage of professional literature and research finding in clinical decision-making process.
KEY WORDS : EBP, Evidence Based Practice, Awareness, Knowledge, Clinical Physical Therapist, Physiotherapist, Attitude and EBP Knowledge.
