BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are among the top public health issues that are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality around the world. CVDs have many risk factors that are modifiable, semi-modifiable, and non-modifiable. Many of them can be prevented or delayed with preventive measures.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the level of knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding preventive measures of cardiovascular disease among the general population of Peshawar.
METHODOLOGY: It was a cross-sectional analytical study that recruited 384 participants through a non-probable convenient sampling technique from the general population of Peshawar. Data were collected in two tertiary care hospitals. A pre-validated data collection tool was used regarding preventive measures for CVDs. data was entered and analyzed with SPSS version 27 for descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, One-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey Honestly Significant Difference test.
RESULTS: Out of 384 participants 244 (64%) were males and 140 (36%) were females. Good knowledge was reported in 50%, fair in 36%, and poor in 14% of participants. For the attitudes category 47% scored Good, 43% fair and 10% in poor scores. For the practice category, 49% had fair, 26% had good and 25% had poor practices.
CONCLUSION: Gender, education, occupation, marital status, and monthly income has been found significant for KAP parameters of CVDs but still more thorough investigations and research studies are required to rule out significant inferences.
